Student Loans - PLUS Loan
Parents of dependent students can borrow from this loan program to help pay the cost of their student’s undergraduate education. This loan is credit based. TSJC requires that a FAFSA be filed for students whose parents would like to borrow through the PLUS Loan program.
To Apply for a PLUS Loan
Step 1:
Sign into http://studentaid.gov and select apply for a PLUS Loan and complete all required information.
Step 2:
If it is determined that you have an adverse credit history, Direct Loans will send
you information on obtaining an endorser or filing an appeal. If you are unable to
obtain an endorser, your student may be eligible for an additional Federal Direct
Unsubsidized Loan in his/her name. If your loan request was subsequently approved
by obtaining a credit worthy endorser or by meeting the “extenuating circumstances”
provisions as part of your appeal process you must then complete PLUS Credit Counseling
on http://studentaid.gov. Contact the school's financial aid office as soon as possible to let them know whether
you plan to pursue a Direct PLUS Loan by obtaining an endorser or submitting documentation
of extenuating circumstances.
Step 3:
Complete the Direct Plus Loan Application in its entirety and submit it to the Financial Aid Office.
If your credit is denied and you are not able to obtain an endorser or repair your credit, the student may borrow an additional unsubsidized loan. Contact the Financial Aid Office.
